“Through That Little Blue Door”

The excitement, the anticipation!
A mindset of less is more,
A young couple’s second big decision
As they walk through that little blue door.

Keys in hand, with smiling faces,
All is right behind the little blue door.

Uneasy and slightly unsure,
With two pink lines, their hearts sore,
A baby’s room awaits
Behind that little blue door.

The growing never seems to stop;
Family brings warmth from ceiling to floor.
Little ones give him the name “Pops,”
And hearts are full behind that little blue door.

Eighteen years go faster than you think.
Ready for the world but feeling torn,
Across the threshold without a blink—
Now only two behind the little blue door.

With a deep sigh, it is time, they think,
To let someone else walk through this door.
With realization, hearts begin to sink:
Someone else will live behind that little blue door.

Two so very young, with keys in hand,
All is right again behind that little blue door.
